| Hello Everyone
There is quite a bit a news since the last entry.
Kyle and I have been keeping busy with this and that. In most recent
news, I got a dose of the north end on friday night when I was robbed
by two 15 year old males, luckily I was not hurt and little was taken
from me in the end. None the less, it certainly makes the reputation
seem that much more real! However, the night end well as I was headed
to Jenn's birthday dinner at Athens on Quinpool rd. The dinner was
great, as was the company, and then we all moved on to drink at Claire
and Jeffs place.
Kyle is almost done for the term, with only one paper to
write and a stack of marking. Hopefully by mid week things will be
looking pretty chill for him.
I have been working away at the Cobourg. I'm enjoying it
quite a bit these days as the workplace tension seems to have
dispersed. Speaking of robberies, the Cobourg was robbed a week ago
friday. They have caught the suspect for several other robberies,
however they haven't been able to pin the Cobourg heist on him, due to
lack of cameras...What an interesting city Halifax is turning out to
be!!
About two and a half weeks ago Kyle's department held a
christmas dinner at the Lord Nelson Hotel (one of these most Posh in
the city) for the grad students. It was a decent time, although I
expected a bit more, but oh well. The curried lobster pasta was
delicious. We all got a dress up and after the dinner was over we all
went over to Anita's place for some social time. Here are some picks of
the evening.

In other big events, Kyle and his classmates got to meet
Jack Layton at the grad house several weeks back. I missed the event
but it certainly seemed like a good time.

It has taken its time to reach us, but we Haligonians finally
experienced some snow. The snow here is more of the freezing rain and
snow combo that leaves behind a thick layer of ice, as well as far too
many accidents. Here is a look at the first snow fall from the apt
window.

Soon we'll been leaving for christmas in Ontario, and we are
really hoping for some good weather for the drive. Anyways, talk to you
soon.

| Hi Everyone
It has been quite a while since I last posted a blog, I thought
it was about time. Since the last time I wrote I have been attending my
bead classes every monday. It was supposed to run for 5 weeks, but
Philip (my teacher) decided that he would extend it, by starting a
second advanced class. I am really enjoying the classes, making lots of
different beads and techniques. Unfortunately, I never seem to make
beads that would be able to go together on one bead. But I am planning
on it in the next couple of weeks. These are my creations so far.

I have been working quite a bit, and am on the opening shifts
now (6:30-3) which I prefer. I have been doing a lot in the kitchen,
especially this past week, making soups and salads. It is quite fun,
and I enjoy the chance to do something fun and creative at work.
Last week I attended a birthday gathering for Elizabeth, a girl
I do beads with. She is taking courses at NSCAD this semester, but is
returning home to Sidney, Australia at the end of December. It was a
great turn out, and I was able to meet some people from Singapore,
Mexico, Australia, India, and even a few Halagonians!! Also, about two
weeks ago Kyle and I went to a show a the Grawood (oncampus bar) and
saw Their Majesties and Cuff the Duke. It was a great show and Cuff the
Duke was fantastic.

Other then that, I have been living a pretty low key life style
here in Hali. I'm looking forward to coming home for Christmas. Kyle
and I plan to leave here on dec 20th and we should arrive in the early
hours of the 21st. I have two weeks off of work so we'll be heading
back here on the 2nd. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone.
Take care and I will talk soon.

| With Remebrance Day past ( a statutory holiday in NS) it is a good time to provide an oversight of the past couple weeks.
Most recenlty we've been able to enjoy some good weather after a week
of rain storms. Over the weekend we went for a stroll in Point
Pleasant Park, a very large green-space on the southern tip of the
penninsula that is Halifax. There are many trails throughout the
park, which is surrouned by water on most sides, the Halifax Harbour to
the east and the Northwest Arm to the west. Throughout the park,
like much of the city, are remnants of old forts and battle stations,
and towers from the time Halifax had strategic militray value.
There were many sailboats out on the water enjoying the remaining opportunites to get out on the water.

One of the many sailboats enjoying the weather.

While I don't know the name of thos ship, it is a U.S. warship, and is
ridiculously big!! I guess there are some military games of war being
conducted out on the waters off the coast here, so this behemoth was in
town as part of that exercise. It is very common to see freight
ships, and the occasional cruise ship, but a military boat of this size
is rare.
Perhaps the greatest latest excitement was Halloween of course!
While in general festivities were tame, a good chunk of my program made
a good showing at the grad pub that night. We later moved the
party to a house of one of my classmates. Having the budget that
I do, creativity was key to my costume design, not wanting to
fight the last-minute rush or spend any coin on a costume I worked with
what was available...boxes, tinfoil, and construciton paper...voila a
robot!

The girls in my program really out did themselves. They all came
as the guys in the program, and the nailed us. The photo above is
Julie(l) and Jen(r), and in you can't tell from the hair, Jen was
your's truly for Halloween. It was quite an honour. I was
amazed at the trouble she went to to spike her hair, no small feat for
a full head like hers. She even coloured it purple. Julie
is dressed as our buddy Rob, who is a true farm-boy. Also very
funny was the fact that Peter Pan and Tinker Bell missed the memo that
no one else was dressing up during the day. They arrived at
school in their full costumes only to find they were the only ones
dressed up. The look on tinker Bell's face was priceless.

This is the building at Dalhousie the Political Science dept.is
located. I spend much of my time between this building, the
library, and the cafe where Olivia works.
Peace.

| Hi Everyone
Halifax is treating us quite well. The fall is nice, and
we have yet to get any snow. I am enjoying my bead making classes,
having completed 3 out of 5 classes. I am learning to make beads with a
torch, also called lampworking. Class 1 was an intro to gravity shaped
beads. Taking pieces of glass an melting them, wrapping it around rods
and letting them cool.
Class 2 we added to the first
class, learning to use tools to shape the beads, from their natural
circular form. I also tried my hand at coating a colour with clear. It
is fun working with difference kinds of glass, learning their
properties.

Class 3 we learned to mix colours a bit more, I even tried
a two colour and clear droplet, which I think turned out quite nice,
but I wont get those beads back until monday.
Work is okay, I'm enjoying all the great people that I work with and
meet through there. Kyle and I went to see the Trailer Park Boys movie
this past wednesday, at Bayer's Lake, and we were pleasantly surprised
that there are several scenes from the movie that were shot at the
theatre. We enjoyed it and if you're fans of the show I would recommend
it.
I have managed to get some more pictures of Halifax for all of those
that have never seen it, or haven't seen it in a long time. The first
four pictures are taken from citadel hill which is located downtown, so
across the water is Dartmouth; pic 1: looking straight down to the
harbour front; pic 2: we live by the bridge; pic 4 & 5: the commons
(where the rolling stones played) is beside citadel hill to the
northwest.

Here is a pic of our
apartment building, we live on the top floor, to the left of the front
door, and the following pic is the Cobourg Coffeehouse.

Well thats all for now. Take care.

| Hey all, (it's Kyle this time. I've put this off long enough.)
Well it's about time I posted a little something here. Ideas in
action. I'm in full gear right now with school, this week shall
be the busiest I've had yet, with something major due for every class
on Friday. That said, I didn;t let the pressures get in the way
of having a great weekend. The 'Halifax Pop Explosion' as come
and gone, bringing over a hundred Candian Indie bands to the City over
a five day span. I definatly got out and appreciated some of
it. Perhaps the most interesting was a Concert/Brunch at the
local coffee shop. There's something suprsingly refreshing about
watching a really good local band play over a mug of coffee instead of
a beer.
Sorry this is so short, but I got distracted while writing, and now
it's past my bedtime. I shall post more extensively soon.
Cheers.
